Construction of a new 76,000-square-foot CubeSmart facility at 6130 E. Ben White Boulevard in Austin, TX is nearing completion. The foundation for a second building is currently being laid.

According to public documents, the property is owned by Austin, TX-based Near Holdings, with financing provided by Lake Forest, IL-based Montopolis Group.

Planned

Builder Peter Heaney plans to convert the 102-year-old former Boys & Girls Club building at 2 Ionic Avenue in Worcester, MA into a self-storage facility. Heaney, who acquired the dilapidated building in November for $130,000, told the Telegram that self-storage will be a temporary use  for the 40,000-square-foot building. Eventually, Heaney said he plans to convert the building into residential units.

Vero Beach, FL-developer North Congress Storage LLC is seeking permission to build a 105,000-square-foot facility in West Palm Beach, FL under the name Presidential Self-Storage. The 2.4 site is located at 1620 N. Congress Ave. The owner of record, an affiliate of Apollo Real Estate Advisors, purchased the site in 2007 for $6 million, according to the South Florida Business Journal.

Pamlico Investments plans to build a 150,000-square-foot facility featuring indoor self-storage, offices, restaurants and shops on a 1.4-acre site at East 10th and Seigle Avenue in Charlotte, NC. Pamlico is a Lakewood, CO based developer and acquirer of self-storage facilities. The five-story project has been dubbed Belmont Mills and will be considered by the Charlotte City Council in April, the Charlotte Observer reports.

Charlotte City Council will also consider another facility in April; 1101 Central Group is seeking approval for a 125,000-square-foot, eight-story storage facility at 10th Street and Central Avenue. Ground-floor retail is planned. The project is less than a half mile from the proposed Belmont Mills development and both are located in an area where more than 1,000 new apartment units are currently under construction.

Best Value Mini Storage obtained approval for its plan to convert a 19,500-square-foot former Moose Lodge building at 320 Lake Boulevard in Redding, CA into a self-storage facility. The developer will also add 17,500 square feet of new storage space to the site, according to the Record Searchlight. Best Value Mini Storage already operates a facility next door at 320 Lake Boulevard.

Brexton LLC plans to build a 84,750-square-foot facility at the corner of Liberty and Short streets in Columbus, OH.The project is estimated to cost $9 million, according to the Columbus Business Journal. The developer obtained approval to build the 700-unit project, which will total six stories. Brexton is a Columbus-based developer and operator of Tri-Village Self Storage. The company completed its first location this past March, and the company’s second location is set to open this spring at Long and Young streets.

Under Construction

The Caster Group, operator of A-1 Self Storage, is building a 114,000-square-foot facility at 2740 Garnet Avenue in San Diego.  The facility is expected to open in November, according to Inside Self Storage. The facility will be the company’s 18th location in the San Diego.
