The envisioned facility would offer 1,4000 units. The former Edward W. Bower Elementary School closed in 2011 due to its age and declining enrollment. Several roadblocks remain for Simply Self Storage’s offer to buy the property for $5 million. Two other offers—one for senior housing and the other for apartments—are on the table. While the school board agreed last week to sell the property, the board could not decide which offer to accept. Final approval of any deal would also be subject to a public referendum. According to a follow up report from Newsday, the board will wait and see if the developers revise their proposals or new offers come to the table.
